Doi Tung Villa, Chiang Rai
Located at the base of Doi Tung Mountain, known as the Switzerland of Thailand, Doi Tung Villa offers the discerning traveler the chance to experience a luxurious hidden gem. The house is built in the style of a French Provence country cottage but decorated with Shan and Lanna antiques. The north facing house stays cool even in the hottest of weather and offers expansive views of Doi Tung mountains. The entire estate is on 56,000 m2 of land with a main house and guest house, crystal clear swimming pool, extensive tropical gardens, numerous ponds and even a labyrinth.

I visited Chiang Rai and stayed at the Doi Tung Villa with my family for three days in December 2008. It was a magical experience. The house was very tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable - a very homey feel. The land and gardens were fun to explore and the staff was helpful but not overwhelming. Touring the Doi Tung Gardens, Golden Triangle and Mae Sai was also enjoyable. The kids enjoyed swimming and walking around the ponds while my wife and I were satisfied reading books and looking at the view. We will certainly be back.
